Cancun, Mexico 🇲🇽 🌴☀️

Let me just start off by saying writing on the regular or maintaining this blog is a work in progress. It’s not the lack of content but rather the time, motivation and energy for me to sit down and write. Of course when I do write it’s always therapeutic. Think of it as going to the gym. The hardest part is literally gathering all of yourself and going to the gym. But after you get there and work out, it’s the best feeling ever. So please bear with me and continue showing the love and support. I promise I will get it together.

So it’s the beginning of summer and Lord knows this had been a long time coming. Literally, this was my light and rainbow at the end of my hurricane.  This past winter season had truly been the test of time if it wasn’t already the lowest point of my life.  Afro-Flava wasn’t doing well, my minimum wage job that I had at the time wasn’t working out and having car troubles were some of the experiences life was throwing at me. I was basically trying to make ends meet. Paying my rent at the time was a mission and a half. Looking back, I am still stunned that I was able to push through and make it out. (Those are some stories for another time)

My friends and I had been talking about going on a tropical trip together to start off the summer. All those winter months of watching travel vlogs from the likes of Lydia Dinga, Est-Are and among many others, it was time for us to make our dream a reality. At this point, I had saved a little bit from the new job I had started towards the end of winter into spring. We originally had planned to go to Thailand but the flight prices were not working in our favour. Besides, the amount of hours it takes to travel to Thailand, one needs at least two weeks to not only recover the jetlag but to fully explore Thailand and some of the other Asian countries. (This is still goals). We then settled going to Cuba until last minute when we found out how one has to typically carry cash for the entire trip since debit cards from America do not work there. Let’s not forget the struggles of customs getting into Cuba. (Thanks Trump for ruining it for us after Obama had cleaned up the mess.) After intense deliberation, Cancun, Mexico was where it was meant to be. None of us had been there and some of the packages were within our budget.

We got a package of about $700.00 per person that was all-inclusive (food and liquor, flight and accommodation for 6 days 5 nights). I don’t know about you but that’s a pretty decent deal. This was also the first trip of the year so the hype was very much anticipated. It was also the first time travelling with a big group which I was very selective in going just because the vibe had to be right.

Cancun is a Mexican city on the Yucatán Peninsula bordering the Caribbean Sea. It, is known for its beaches, numerous resorts and nightlife. Just Like every travel destination, Cancun is composed of 2 distinct areas. The more traditional downtown area, El Centro, and Zona Hotelera, a long, beachfront strip of high-rise hotels, nightclubs, shops and restaurants. Cancun is a popular destination for college students during the spring break period.it is also a very popular destination for black folks especially for memorial weekend

We stayed at Princess Yucatan Resort which is about 40 mins drive outside Cancun. A resort that I must say I will definitely go back. We also bought different activities beforehand so when were there we wouldn’t have had to worry about money or any surprising costs. Going to Cancun was the first trip I had done in terms of going on a full vacation resort. You all know that when I travel I like to experience the culture and learn the way of life. Unfortunately this trip was not one of those but at the same time you can’t blame me after the stormy weather I went through. All I wanted was to bask in the sun by the pool with my cocktails and relax.

This trip was everything and more. Not only was it much needed but it was a reward to myself. I am grateful I got to experience this trip and just like I imagined it did set the tone for the rest of the summer. Make sure to follow me on Instagram @Victor_4realzz and check-out my highlight for the full visual aspect of the trip because words cannot express the magical experience.

Dubai Chronicles🇦🇪✈️🌏

They say it happens when you least expect it. Around this time last year, my friends and I were dreaming of the day we would visit Dubai. Let’s just say the “Sex and the City” movie was not only the source of inspiration but it kind of planted the seed. Little did we know, the universe was listening in on us. Just this past week, we got the opportunity to fulfill one of our travel adventures which was to visit the capital city of the Emirate of Dubai.

Dubai is the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Located on the Southeast Coast of the Persian Gulf, it has emerged as a global city and business hub of the Middle East.

Some even call Dubai the trendsetter due to the many things you can ONLY find in Dubai. It is known for -:

* The tallest building, man made structure and free standing structure – Burj Khalifa

* The world’s only 7-star hotel – Burj Al Arab, Dubai
*The largest mall in the world – Dubai Mall
* The largest water cannon show in the world – Dubai Mall
* The largest artificial islands in the world – Palm Islands (The Palm Jumeirah, The Palm Jebel Ali and The Palm Deira) in Dubai and among many other things.

With the little background of traveling I have had, I’ve gotten the experience of travelling alone and travelling with a group of friends. Although Both adventures are completely different, they  still quench the thirst of the travel bug (The urge to travel and see the world). As much as I have enjoyed traveling alone and learning more about myself, nothing can beat the excitement and fun that comes with traveling with a group of close friends.

We were a total of four when we decided to take on this adventure. Sandra who I met in South Africa 🇿🇦 ,Natalie my best friend, Adam my childhood best friend, and myself. We Couldn’t have asked for a better crew because not only did each of us bring a different perspective and vibe but we also came with different personalities.

We booked our flights through RwandAir not knowing what to expect since none of us had heard of it before. Not to be dramatic or over the top but when your planning for a vacation, the kind of airline you use normally sets the mood/foundation for your trip. If you come to think of it, your journey for your trip marks the beginning of your vacation.

To our surprise their services were pretty good. I am talking from the look of the plane to the actual presentation of the staff. Ofcourse my favorite part had to be the food🍲. Normally plane food is never anything to look forward to but RwandAir changed the game for me. I like my food to burst with flavor from the first bite and let’s just say the food that RwandAir served, did that and so much more.

Don’t be fooled though. Like every good service there is always a downside to it. RwandAir was not the best with keeping time. Our flights were delayed both when we were leaving for our trip and also when we were returning. This is just a precaution to those who might consider to use their airline. But in all honesty, I would fly with them again just because of their food.

We ended up staying at ‘Time Crystal Hotel Apertments’ in Bersha Heights Dubai. You would think that AB&B would be cheaper but in Dubai it actually isn’t. Hotel apartments tend to be less costly because you can accommodate a large group of people and also save costs by cooking your own meals. Although our location was not as close to the city as we would have liked, the use of uber and taxis made it easier to commute everywhere.

When in Dubai, there are just certain things that you have to do during your visit. We had the intentions of checking out the night scene, the desert Safari and ofcourse tour the city. A night out in Dubai is actually very expensive. Not only do you have to pay for a cover fee at the club but the alcohol itself is also quite pricey. Due to the fact that its a Muslim Country, they tend to have strict laws. Things like alcohol are one of the things that are taken very seriously.

I personally must admit the desert safari was the highlight of the trip.

There’s nothing better than when you are speciafically dressed for an occasion that goes along with the theme. Not only does it set the atmosphere but you are completely embersed in the moment making the experience even more authentic than it already is. Being as outgoing as we are, we knew we had to go all out and dress the part with no apologies.

We got a package that included a late night dinner, hookah, camel ride and the best part, desert driving and dune bashing. Personally when vacationing especially with a group, it’s normally cheaper when it comes to doing activities. Most companies even give a better discount the bigger the group. Groupon (

Dubai has opened my eyes and raised the bar when it comes to travel destinations. In the words Gustave Flaubert, “travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.”
