PodcastsπŸ“»πŸŽ™

One thing I have learned is that the older you get, you tend to look for different things to inspire you and motivate you. You can call this part of adulting but at this stage of my life, I am always in search of things that are relatable or fall in line with where I am at currently. While reading self-help books, or biographies is the obvious go-to answer, podcasts are a good alternative. Also being the fact that podcasting is the new wave, I was very curious to check it out and give it a shot. I haven’t gotten a chance to listen to an audiobook yet but I am guessing it is the same experience. Continue reading “PodcastsπŸ“»πŸŽ™”

People Watching πŸ‘€

Ever tried listening to your heartbeat and notice that in order for you to hear it, you have to block all the noise around you. That’s the same feeling you get when you ‘people watch.’ Losing touch with reality so as to fully be in the zone as you watch strangers in their natural habitat.

As funny, weird and maybe creepy as it sounds, people watching is somehow therapeutic. Part of it could just be because of the career field that I am in and the fact that I typically strive in curiosity. You kind of forget the craziness in your own personal life and get to watch others while trying to figure out their story. It’s almost as how documentaries  on national geographic would watch wild animals.

This is a skill that I learned when I would be at a party or in the club and randomly watch people’s behaviors and kind of try to figure them out. From across the room, you would see which girl is trying so hard to seek attention or sometimes that one guy who is too shy to approach a girl but is trying so hard to gather up the courage or even that one person who’s the designated driver and is ready to leave.

I know what your thinking; that, that’s kind of creepy but if you pay close attention and watch certain behaviors ranging from body language to facial expressions and the reading of lips, you notice that we as human beings, as guarded as we are, we all have same tendencies no matter the cultural difference. We could be tackling the same issues but using different mechanisms to cope.

I have found myself people watching more often these days every time I sit at my favorite cafe in between classes. Living in a different country where the way of life and culture is different, yet there are so many similarities. I have found it easier to learn the way of life here simply by watching.

It’s almost like taking it back to basics. Just like how children learn at a tender age through observation.
