Back At It. 🥂🍷🍾#winetasting

It’s been close to two years since I visited a vineyard and had a wine tasting session. Today, all the memories came rushing back from the mini adventures that I ventured in South Africa through my wine tasting escapades. Oh Stellenbosch how I miss you.

For those who’ve been with me from back in the day, I am sure you know what am talking about. If you haven’t, please do yourself a favour and go check out my archives and you’ll get all the way caught up.

I got a chance to visit Nashoba Valley Winery in Bolton Massachusetts with a group of special folks. Two of my co-workers who I adore to death and Esther who I met for the first time but had a lot of mutual friends. Esther if you’re reading this, I am still baffled why our so called “friends” never introduced us because the connection was too real.

This is my first official wine tasting experience in America and I must say, “What the hell have I been doing with my life?” Quick note to all my wine lovers. It doesn’t matter what location, city or country. The culture of wine tasting is literally all the same. As soon as we arrived, I felt right at home. Not to be extra and all dramatic but I did feel like the prodigal son that had finally returned home.

For just $15, we got to taste and sample 10 different wines out of at least 20 options based on one’s preference. Well technically, you get 10 tokens and you can use them to sample wine, beer or brandy. Of course I used all of mine to try the wines.  Compared to Rands (SA currency🇿🇦), this is some bull pricing but for the average Americans, this is absolutely affordable. The atmosphere and the energy was absolutely amazing. From the open greenery fields to the actual vineyards, the views were absolutely stunning and very relaxing as well.

Towards the end, we bought a couple bottle of wines. Some to take home and the rest to sip while we ate and enjoyed the day and the views.  What better way to soak it all in with some good vibes, friends and amazing outlooks.

The weather was perfect as well which added to the aesthetics of the property that contributed to a dope Instagram pic. As I am getting older, the clubbing scene/night life is kinda getting too outdated for me and I am finding myself leaning towards these kind of vibes and hobbies.

I absolutely recommend for everyone to check out Nashoba Valley Winery. It’s perfect for a date, mini day get away for couples, friends and even with family. Stay tuned because there’s definitely gonna be more post on my wine adventures.

Afro Flava😋👅💦

As I sit down and reflect from the last time I wrote to ya’ll, a lot has quite happened. I mean from dating to finding a job, there’s been quite a personal growth.  I recently just got a job as a server at a pretty descent restaurant. Others would call it a classy, high-end but yet affordable.  Having worked in the restaurant business before, this was one thing I’ve always shied away from. Getting the three/four dollars an hour is not a conversation one looks forward to hearing especially when you’re in desperate need of fast cash. Now that I am in the industry and knowing what servers go through, it all makes sense. (Future blog post)

Anyways, so ya’ll remember my Instagram food page that I started a few weeks ago? (@Afro_flava) well let’s just say it’s been great so far. What started out as a platform for showcasing my love for food, quickly overturned to a possible business venture.

Not going to lie but all this happened so fast, it still feels like a dream. They say it happens when you least expect it. It all started when one of my good friends had asked me to make her a meal prep (this was when I was struggling to find a job). She offered to buy the main ingredients and pay me $50.00.

At first it seemed like a side hustle but mostly just helping out a friend. Besides I cook all the time on social media so it really didn’t seem much to me. After her reaction of the master piece that I prepared for her, I decided to kinda venture and look for more folks who will be willing to pay for a meal prep.​

We’re living in a time where fitness is a trend and all that comes with it (food, fashion, beauty) has become a day to day lifestyle. I believe this is an un-tapped market area so why not be smart and take a risk in this possible business.​

​I never imagined I will be my own boss, yet again we also never thought Trump would be president. Thus far I’ve gotten a couple of clients here and there but haven’t really gotten a loyal clientele yet. As crazy as it sounds, I feel like maybe this could be the start of something big.

I officially want to introduce you to Afro Flava. A food and beverage company that is dedicated to exploring the art of food and different ways to exciting ones taste buds by catering meal preps.

The Art of Wine🍷🍾

It’s been approximately 4 months and my taste buds are just one of the things that have evolved and changed for the better. I mean, being the food lover that I am, your taste buds mean everything. It’s one of your major tools needed to experience this life that is full of flavor. It’s like a singer who relies on their voice. Dare to imagine a life where you taste buds are all kinds of messed up or just don’t function. You might as well just give up on life. (I am definitely exaggerating)

Being here in the rainbow nation and living in the land surrounded by vineyards of the Cape Winelands (Stellenbosch), a glass of wine a day is as normal as taking my daily vitamins. Ever since I joined the world of alcohol consumption, I have always fancied the art of drinking wine and being knowledgeable about it. The type of sophistication and class that wine culture brings about is literally my aspirations. Well lord and behold, my wish finally came true hence my blog post for today.

Wine tasting for me has become my newest hobby. Not only is it very affordable here in SA but the atmosphere that it comes with is just relaxing and very calming. Learning the art of wine from tasting, to pairing it, is no different than learning to really appreciate music or art. It takes time and effort to understand wine and even training your pallet to enjoy the different kinds of wine. Being able to break down the different dynamics of wine from the aroma to the diverse aspect of the taste that it comes with, also takes time.

I never used to drink wine as much. In all reality, the only wine that I used to drink was white Moscato brands or anything that was predominantly sweet. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. In fact, as I preferably like to say now, those kind of wines are the entry levels to joining the wine society. Especially if you fancy the art of winery like I do.

Living in Stellenbosch has been a wine education boot camp for me. Stellenbosch which is well known for its viticulture (the science, production, and study of grapes in a vineyard) is one of the larger two main wine growing regions in South Africa. The South African wine industry itself produces about 1,000,000,000 liters of wine annually. It honestly can’t get any better than that.


In no way am I trying to say that I am a wine expert but I have learned quite a few basics. Pairing wine and food, how to swirl wine in a glass, and the difference between taste vs. flavor. Initially, red wine was never an option for me as well as any wine that was typically dry but now I am able to enjoy any kind of wine. Of course I do have some dislikes with certain flavors of wines but it is not like before where I couldn’t handle drinking specific wines.​

​Part of me also believes that when it comes to wine, one has to acquire the taste of it gradually over time. Just like how you would never eat some foods when you were younger but as you grow older, you start eating them. Some people are just not wine fanatics whatsoever and that’s perfectly fine. The same way I am not a big fan of beer.🍻🍺​

​As my time here winds up. I will continue visiting wine tasting farms and enjoy this new hobby to the fullest. We all know back at home, wine tasting can be quite expensive.

Taste Buds 🇿🇦😝☕️

One thing about South Africa is the pride they take in their rich food culture. Being the foodie that I am, this is literally heaven for me. I thought I was going to lose weight but weightloss is seeming to be more of a future goal than a present moment.

With everything relatively close distance to each other. One cannot miss a coffee shop or some type of local restaurant in whichever direction or street you walk to. Apart from the famous Mcdonalds found on main st,  They barely have corporation based chain restaurants which I think is great because it promotes and encourages local small businesses. 

This morning while walking to get registered for classes, I came across a cafe by the name “TasteBud” which is a food pantry and Eatery. 

 It’s literally a classy, preppy cafe that mostly exudes brunch and coffee vibes☕️. Meaning, all the good stuff that you can think of that falls into the brunch food category. They also happen to serve a lunch buffet with a different menu everyday. ​


Also the staff is very friendly and welcoming which to me has been the best  customer service so far since I have been here. Like most cafes, they have an outside patio where one can enjoy their meal in the beautiful weather. 

 I am definitely looking forward to more Stellenbosch foodie adventures which I will keep you guys posted.
